i have a 7 month old puppie that had surgery for a complicated intestine. We ae three days after surgery and she is not eating and vomits occosionally. how long before we make the decision to put her down or not? I hate for her to be in pain.

Doc

It can take a few days for intestinal function to recover after such a surgery. Have you talked to your veterinarian? Often in a situation like this you will need to hand feed, or even tube feed a liquid diet at first, along with medicines like Reglan (metoclopramide) to help with the stomach emptying.
Call your puppy's doctor today.

How long does it take for mineral oil to take effect? To make the dog poop?

Doc

Hello, Ivonne,

The mineral oil should work overnight, no more than 12 hours. It is okay to repeat it for a day or so. If nothing is happening (and we are sure the dog is urinating okay, not blocked), you should consult your veterinarian. Some impactions require enemas and even I.V. fluid therapy to overhydrate the patient.

Good luck

constipation causes

constipation usually happens because the colon has absorbed too much water from the food due to the lack of water-holding capacity of the bowels' contents.
i hope that this can help somebody
thanks
